Doors have been used as a metaphorical device in arts, literature and religions for longer than history can recall but rarely in an anthropomorphic manner. Many of them are symbolically endowed; representing the very architectures they are being part of while the others can be less obvious and even to a certain extent, deceptive. Similarly, when we look at each other, we often associate a specific age, gender, profession, social status, standard of modesty and religion with the clothes one is dressed in, without the understandings of one’s true identity and inner-self.
Doors & Entrances is a collection of door portraitures. While it documents and preserves these architectural elements from the rapidly changing landscape of the metropolis, hence the straight, reportage style, it also serves as an analogical medium in exploring the interpersonal perceptions of our society.
